Anzac Day - Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
Anzac Day is one of the most important events on the Australian Calander. Every year on the 25th of April we commemorate the soliders who fought in WWI.
Australian and New Zealand forces landed in Gallipoli to help aid our allies in gaining control over the ottoman empire. They thought it would be a quick fight but they were met with fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. A battle which lasted 8 months.
At the end of 1915 The battle ended as both sides had suffered severe casualities and hardships. News of the tough conditions of the battle in which over 8,000 of our soliders died in reached back home and Australians remember the sacrifice made by the Anzacs each year.
Anzac biscuits were a result of women back home being concerned with the nutiritional value of the food being served to our soliders. The food wasnt the best, and any food being sent over via ship took a very long time get into the hands of the soliders.
This is the reason why eggs are'nt used as a binding ingredient. They would cause the biscuits to spoil quickly so treacle or golden syrup was used instead.
Today, we still make ANZAC biscuits to share with family and friends as a way to remmeber the sacrifice made by our soldiers who fought to keep Australia free.
So here's my version of ANZAC biscuits. I would for you to make them, share them with family and friends and remember the sacrifice made this ANZAC day.
